Case Study

Scope Management

I ensure project scope is not only clearly defined but is also rigorously controlled through commercial mechanisms, protecting the client's budget and long-term asset integrity. My expertise spans technical specification writing for multi-million-dollar systems to implementing formal change management within NEC 3/4 contracts.

Asset Protection & Compliance

Overview

In my current role as Project Support Officer at FIG PWD, a primary responsibility is ensuring contractor alignment with published requirements. I perform tender assessments to verify that contractors have responded with a correct understanding of our published scope. Furthermore, in managing existing contracts, I implement the early warning system within the NEC contracts we run. This is crucial for proactively managing any proposed additional work or scope change, ensuring clear documentation and financial accountability.

As the Base Administrator/Project Manager at Bristow Helicopters, I was responsible for ensuring the contractor performing the X-Block refurbishment adhered strictly to the agreed scope. I verified technical compliance by requiring suppliers to evidence that the new heating and lighting systems met the specified energy-saving targets. A key focus was ensuring the refurbishment did not cause any structural disturbance, which I categorized as an out-of-scope breach, preventing unauthorized work and protecting the asset's core integrity.

As a Construction Project Manager at Goodwin Ltd, I was responsible for ensuring the client's scope was accurately translated into project execution documents. I enforced change management protocols by documentation, costing, and client approval for any deviation from the original scope for projects like the steel-frame shop or blocks of flats, thereby protecting budget integrity and ensuring we were not buying material that would cost more than initially billed for.

In my earlier role as GIS Project Solutions Specialist (Integral Edge Systems Design), I managed the development of the multi-sectoral Rural WASH Information Management System (RWIMS), a project with a budget exceeding $3 million USD. I wrote the technical specifications (the scope), managed the development team, and ensured the system served the exact purpose for which it had been developed. I was responsible for documenting any changes, ensuring they were either funded for or accounted for by the donors and project boards.
