Risk Management
My approach to risk is holistic, covering strategic threats at the portfolio level down to physical safety on the construction site. Leveraging my NEC 3/4 and PfMP® expertise, I embed formal risk assessment and mitigation processes into governance, contracts, and logistics to ensure project continuity and protect asset value.

Overview
Strategic & Portfolio Risk Management (FIG): In my current Project Support Officer role, I directly assist the Director and Deputy Director in managing risks and dependencies across all capital programmes. I ensure risk is formally assessed and quantified at the earliest stage of portfolio intake via business case development and by doing SWOT analysis I have highlighted potential threats to the strategic objectives in some of the projects I have been involved in. I maintain the central governance records, which includes tracking risks and assumptions, similar to a RAID log, for the Directorate.
Contractual & Physical Risk Control (Goodwin & Bristow): At Goodwin Ltd, I enforced the Health and Safety Policy by leading a continuous Risk Assessment process, conducting site inspections, and running safety briefings, every Monday morning at 8AM I ran a toolbox talk. I employed the Mitigation strategy by implementing process changes and requiring specific safety controls to reduce the likelihood of site accidents. For example, for specific civils earthworks, I used contract clauses to Transfer liability for specialist risks to subcontractors. At Bristow, I was personally accountable for Mitigating high-impact risks related to the facilities upgrade. I led the process for resolving risks such as supply chain disruptions and quality defects (e.g., boiler faults). I ensured the contractor had a full risk assessment which I witnessed the contractor project manager deliver onsite, and the tradesmen signed.
Systemic & Donor Risk Management (Integral Edge): As the GIS Project Solutions Specialist for the RWIMS deployment, I managed systemic project risk for a $3M+ IT project. I managed risks related to system failure through rigorous testing and used Contingency Planning to address deployment risks in remote provinces. A key risk to the project's success was stakeholder dissatisfaction; I actively Mitigated this risk by sitting on the Project Board and ensuring donor and user expectations were constantly aligned with the system's actual capabilities, using the Risk-Reward Analysis to guide project decisions on new features.
Environmental & Logistical Risk (ICRISAT & Safelane Global): At ICRISAT, the project schedule was fundamentally exposed to environmental risks tied to agricultural seasons. I employed the Avoidance strategy by scheduling certain assessment elements only during the appropriate season, eliminating the risk of data loss due to untimely collection. My work also involved defining data collection specifications that inherently mitigated the risk of scientific error. During my time at Safelane Global as Logistics Assistant, my logistical planning was a core component of risk mitigation. I was responsible for securing PPE, accommodation, and food for the West Falklands Team, which directly mitigated the HSE risks associated with operating in a remote and potentially hazardous (demining) environment. I proactively engaged landowners to secure safe access, further mitigating external risks.
